The vision of BowStance is to use our knowledge of physiology, techniques to focus minds and our training in Internal Arts, to help people connect better with their bodies and better focus their energy.

Why do we talk about Internal Arts rather than Martial Arts?

The purpose of our training courses is to make you healthier, more aware of how you move and how your energy moves within you to give you more control of your body. The teaching of Tai Chi, particularly of Chen family style, is thought of as a fighting system but we don’t start with that aim. Most people in the world who practice Tai Chi never use it against another student but still get enormous benefit from the study.

How long does it take to be an expert in Tai Chi and Qi Gong?

No one who truly studies these disciplines would claim to know it all. Unlike many sports and even many martial arts, there are no awards or ‘belts’ to be won. You can study this for the rest of your life and learn something new every day. And there is no age limit!

What’s the difference between Tai Chi & Qi Gong?

Qi Gong is seen as a set of exercises, often in repeated steps that concentrate on stretching each set of muscles in the body while breathing ‘correctly’. There are many different versionsof these exercises and we will use the type that will most benefit the student.

TaiChi Chen is taught as a long set of movements making up a ‘form’. Our lessons often concentrate on only a small part of this form or on longer string of steps as the student progresses. The whole body is part of every movement and it’s martial nature is implicit.

To put it more simply: TaiChi students, masters and grand masters also practice Qi Gong to improve flexibility and strength.

So how can we help you?

A lifetime of study does not always fit with our modern lifestyles. There is no quick way to teach this knowledge. However, every lesson brings some benefit. There are noessential skills you need to know before you gain a benefit. But the more you practice, the more you gain. Like everything good in life!

If you have limited time to dedicate to the training, perhaps a Group Course might suit you. These are run on a regular basis and usually take an hour at a time. This might be once or more times a week and are run in a friendly atmosphere in a large hall. You only need some comfortable clothes and gym shoes to take part. Tai Chi and Qi Gong don’t require expensive equipment to practice.

If you run or a part of a business that would like to integrate this training into your team building, stress busting or staff re-energising, then we can organise a dedicated session for you, in your own premises or convenient location. Talk to us about our Bespoke courses.

If you work or move in a specialist area that could benefit from this training, then we would love to hear from you.

We are very excited to be developing a specialist course for horse riders that will help with their riding style as well as promote core strength and lower the risk of injury.

If you have more time to dedicate to training and perhaps a desire to move faster through all the different skills, we may be able to offer One to One training at your convenience. Whatever your requirements, please contact us for advice and an assessment.
